Looking for the perfect night out with your special someone? Let’s take a walk through historic downtown Maplewood and discover its unique shops, delicious local restaurants, and hidden gem activities!

Maplewood Route 66 sign in front of autumn trees and downtown storefronts, with a green shop window and calm small-town street.
Now an ideal destination for eating, shopping, and activities, Maplewood was once part of the original Route 66!

Unique Shopping

Here are a few of my favorite shops in Maplewood to bring home a memorable (or delicious) gift from your romantic date night!

Kakao Chocolate gift box beside assorted chocolates in white cups on a wooden table, with logo and 314.455.4446 visible.

Kakao Chocolate

7272 Manchester Rd, Maplewood, MO 63143

Award winning chocolates and confections await you in the delightful Kakao Chocolate. The staff is always helpful and attentive, and they might even have free samples for you to try. With a variety of chocolate barks, house made marshmallows, and even wine flavored pates de fruits, you can’t go wrong with anything from this shop.

Pro tip: If you pay with cash, you can pick one free confection from the case!

BookHouse independent bookstore storefront with window displays and signs, including Eat Sleep Read local, on brick building.

The Book House

7352 Manchester Rd, Maplewood, MO 63143

Browse unusual used books at The Book House. This is a cozy bookstore with shelves and shelves of books including new, used, rare, and even out-of-print selections. You might be lucky enough to catch the store’s friendly cats roaming around, Gatsby and Zelda. Try picking out a book for each other to read before the next date!

Bright gourmet food shop with shelves of jars, bottles, and gift baskets; German sign on back wall, warm wood floor and lighting

Vom Fass

7314 Manchester Rd, Maplewood, MO 63143

Sample new flavors together at Vom Fass. Here you can try interesting varieties of olive oils, vinegars, liqueurs, wines, and more! The staff is always super friendly and helpful to guide you through their products and let you sample anything you’d like. They also have a variety of fun vessels to fill with any oil you choose. Be on the lookout for their special tasting events!

Bites and Brews

Skip the “I don’t know, what do you want to eat?” part of the night and add these stops to the itinerary!

Gourmet burger with sesame bun, greens, bacon and beef patty on a white plate, set on a wooden table with a blurred background.

The Blue Duck

2661 Sutton Blvd, Maplewood, MO 63143

Relax on the beautiful rooftop patio at The Blue Duck. Dine on elevated comfort food like duck-fat fries and outrageously crafted burgers and sip on their specialty cocktails or local beer selections. You definitely don’t want to skip dessert here! They have a large variety of incredible house-made desserts from macarons and cookies to brownies and pies. They also offer vegan and gluten free options!

Wooden hanging sign for The Side Project Cellar, 7373, against a brick building.

Side Project Cellar

7373 Marietta Ave, Maplewood, MO 63143

Side Project actually has three locations right here- the Brewery, Pizza, and the Cellar. The pizza is some of my favorite pizza in St. Louis, but I’m highlighting the cellar location for unique after-dinner drinks. The Cellar is a tasting-room for their specialty small-batch brews, wines, and whiskeys as well as a cocktail menu. The variety here just goes on and on, so there’s no shortage of new, interesting flavors to enjoy that you won’t find anywhere else!

Activities

End off the night with an experience! These activities will get you thinking, moving, laughing, and igniting that spark in your relationship.

Escape From St. Louis sign in a modern shop with red wall, hanging lights, and T-shirts on display.

Escape From St. Louis

7403 Manchester Rd, Maplewood, MO 63143

Keep the magic going with a puzzling adventure at Escape From St. Louis. Choose from Wizard Quest, Vanished or Carnival of the Cosmos and work together to complete the challenge in one hour. As a small, women-owned business, this escape room is full of heart, and you’ll feel it in every story and every puzzle you experience here. Challenging, fun and certainly unforgettable, this is a great addition to your perfect date night!

Focal Point

2720 Sutton Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63143

Enjoy live music in an intimate concert setting or dance the night away in a romantic tango lesson at Focal Point. This venue hosts a variety of music events highlighting local artists including anything from an 11 piece 1920s jazz band to Irish step dancing recitals. Check out their website to see what they have going on next!

With so many great options in Maplewood, you can't go wrong taking your next date here for a romantic night. Enjoy your night out and let us know what your favorite Maplewood gems are!
